The office of the Deputy Director of Education, Kozhikode was established on Nov 1, 1967, based on the recommendations of State institute Director Sri. A.K. Narayanan, regarding the re…… and arrangement of work in Edu.  Dept. Based on these valuable recommendations, Sri. C.H. Muhammed Koya, then Chief Minister, through Government order (MS) No: 142/79/….. dtd 278/79, ordered to ease the functioning of zonal offices and established Deputy  Directorates in all districts of the state, which started to function wef 01/1979. Since the establishment of District Deputy Directorates, the post of accounts officer at Kozhikode district ( charge held by Secretariat …) was shifted to Kottayam as per Govt. order dtd 24/10/1979. Even now, while ministerial staff discharge duties as accounts officer, in all districts, Secretariat employees discharge duty as Account officer in Trivandrum, Kottayam and Ernakulum. The provident fund accounts of Aided school employees at the Directorate was decentralized, instead Asst. Provident fund was set up under Deputy Director officer at in every district.  The Asst. Provident fund office, Kozhikode, started functioning wef 27/11/1998.

Administrative Assistant subordinate Deputy Director in dealing with overall administration, while Accounts officer deals with matters of Audit, Pension and allocation of funds and distribution. The Provident fund Accounts of Aided school employees are maintained at Asst. Provident fund officer. In addition, Senior superintend Junior superintend clerks and last grade servants comprise of the staff. Every district directorates of education vary in their pattern regarding the number of superintends and clerks. Hence each directorate differ from one another regarding the number of sections and clerks working in each section.
